Simpleminded Me

Here I sit with a college degree in Organic Chemistry which means I passed calculus, thermodynamics, and all the other "difficult" courses to get it.

So why do I catch myself with these "DUHHHhhh" moments?

Case in point.

I like to use hand crank can openers. I've been wrestling with my favorite can opener for the past two months trying to get a clean cut without having to bend the cut out lid back and forth to break the lid away from the can. The can opener was wearing out.

So, today, I came up with the "Brilliant" idea of trying to cut off the lid from the side.... VOILA! Works perfectly, lid comes off clean, although I do get a sharp edge... I can deal with that.


Another Case in point.

I've been scammed more often than I like to tell. I trust people, especially the ones who are "family men" and "live by christian principles." I get called at least twice a day by telemarketers asking me if I would like to make money from home.

I try to be polite to the person who calls me, because he/she are just working folks trying to make a living and deserve the respect of anyone willing to work.

But the "manager/account executive/qualifier" gets my candidness.

So, here's what I "discovered" today.

Instead of them sending me their "you can't touch me if I gyp you out of all your money" invoices that they want me to sign right away or lose the "discount/bonus/whatever", I ask them for a copy of their Contract for my lawyer to look over before I decide to do business with them.

So far, three out of three hangups. (Tee Hee)

Big Business uses contracts that they have their lawyers and financial executives go over before making any purchase decisions. I should have been keenly aware of this, but for some reason, the thought didn't occur to me because of the different environment I'm in now.

(This makes me think about how my mind processes memories. Why is it easy for me to recognize and name everyone at work (when I worked), but can't quite remember their name if I meet them "out of context?")

Anyway... Lessons for today are"

1) Cut the side of the can, not the top.

2) Ask for a contract or documents a new opportunity promoter requires you to sign first and tell "them" you'll have your lawyer and chief financial officer go over it before you make a decision.

Common sense.... "Trust, but Verify"
